Get Your Kicks on Route 66

After staying the night at the small yet cozy Travelodge off of historic route 66 we headed out to the Petrified Forest National Park. This was definitely a sight to see. The park encompasses both the painted desert and the petrified forest. My initial expectations for the painted desert were a bit high… I was thinking vibrant and rich colors all over the place. While I was a little off in my expectations the painted desert was still an impressive sight. The petrified forest was really cool, it was amazing that giant tree trunks had literally been changed from wood to stone. Mother nature truly is a force to reckoned with. After departing the National Park we headed along route 66 stopping at a neat little classic Burger joint called Joe and Aggie’s. We even passed a motel where you could stay in a teepee just like in the movie Cars. We finally made our way up to a slightly more civilized area of Arizona called Williams where we are staying overnight before taking a train up to the Grand Canyon. Another good vacation day and so far the trip has been a great success, I’ll let y’all know how the Grand Canyon goes tomorrow.
